One of the things that’s always annoyed me about John’s portrayal in a large majority of the fandom is that he is either a complete grade A douche or a naive child. There’s never any middle ground. John can be mean but he can also be fairly dense; I feel like some people have deliberately skipped over the non-asshole parts of his personality.
